Great Bradfords – Welfare officer statement

As a club we recently received some very sad news regarding a very dear friend of a lot of members of the Great Bradfords community.

This message is to all players, parents, guardians, supporters, sponsors and anyone connected with the club.

Unfortunately Scott from the Swiss Bell he has been cruelly taken from us far to early and has died.

In regards to letting youth players know. And how to address this, each family will handle this differently and we are not here to tell you how you should deliver the news, but what we will do is offer as much support and guidance as possible. If you are not sure how to address this, please contact myself or Jess and we can offer more tailored advice.

Below I have outlined some tips but if anyone is finding it particularly difficult. Please, please reach out to me or Jess and we can help and if needed point people to specific help.

  • Ask for help from family and friends – Yes we are here to help but don’t be afraid to speak to people close to you about what you are feeling.
  • Allow yourself time. This is news that no one should ever have to deal with, some people may take longer to accept what’s happened and that’s fine, it’s ok. So long as they are talking about feelings and not bottling it all up.
  • If, as time goes on, you are not able to process what’s happened, consider talking to a mental health professional. – This is where Jess and I will be able to support you and point you in a good direction

Tips for telling children

  • It is important to tell a child of any age when someone important has died and ideally this is done by someone who is closest to them.
  • Tell a child in a place where they can be supported and away from distractions.
  • Use clear language that they can understand. Clear words such as ‘he has died’ are easier for children to understand rather than ‘lost’ ‘passed away’ or ‘gone to the stars’
  • Allow for time together for comfort, supper and any questions they may ask.
  • Answer questions honestly, but keep explanations short, clear and appropriate for their age and understanding. It is ok to say you don’t know the answer to a question, but that you will come back to them if you find an answer.
  • It is ok to show your emotions and explain that you are sad because of the event and that it is ok to be sad. And it’s normal to be sad
  • Remind them that people handle things differently and be kind
  • If they are struggling and need further help please contact myself or Jess

Great Bradfords FC have taken advice from ECFA and the UK Government advice since the beginning of the Covid-19 Outbreak. It is with saddness that we therefore have to suspend ALL football until further notice, this includes but not limited to Matches, Training, Club Events and Management Committee Meetings.

In this time please stay tuned in to your individual team chats and our GB FC facebook page where we will post regularly to keep you all up to date!

We will miss all of our players, managers, supporters and friends during this time but urge ALL to #stayhome so we can get back to what we love doing!

A Welcome from our Chair

Welcome to the Great Bradfords Football Club home page! Through our website you will see the hard work that our great team put into the running of the club, you will learn more about the club and hopefully find some events that interest you coming up! Not only that but you will get to meet each of our teams and generous sponsors whom without Great Bradfords FC would not be possible.

Great Bradfords FC started with the aim to offer football in the Braintree area and surrounding villages. We started in a league that no longer exists in the area moving on to the Blackwater and Dengie League before eventually into the Colchester and District Youth League. As a club we now operate within six different league competitions with sixteen teams under the club banner. The growth of the club does not change who or what we are, we are a family club every manager, player, committee member, supporter are members of our family and receive the same feirce and unwaivering support that any family member would.

I am very excited about the current progression of the club and the five year plan our committee have set in place ensures we are prepared for the next steps. As a club we still need your support, we always need volunteer coaches and committee members and would love to see you involved – Contact Us Below! We also need your help, we need sponsors of course to continue the amazing work our coaches do, but more so we need help to find a new home – the club needs between 8-10 acres of land to secure a home for the whole club for the future, can you help us find that? Please let us know!

Browse our webiste, see our events and gallery and contact us if you think there is anything more you’d like to know! I hope to see you soon!
