Under 14 Comets
About the Team!
Having only formed at Under 12’s as a development side, it was a relatively late stage for players to begin in the grand scheme of grassroots football but these lads have taken the challenge on their shoulders with improvements in performances week on week.
This group have shown their strength and perseverance by winning the Dave Bailey memorial award in their first season, showcasing their commitment to our club values and vision.

Latest Team Report
GBFC Comets 0
Writtle Minors Greens 6
This time last year this performance would’ve had us full of praise and adulation, so the fact that it felt below our best is a real sign of how far we have come this season.
Despite having the best of the very early exchanges, it was Writtle who drew first blood in the 5th minute and that caused the Comets heads to drop.
Performances have improved and now its time to work on positivity. It’s time to forget the old ways of “here we go again” and start thinking “lets get back into it” when we go behind.
Slowly confidence was restored and The Comets started playing much the better football with Writtle resorting to niggly fouls, which makes the eventual half time score of 4-0 all the more frustrating, with a wind assisted goal and a somewhat dubious penalty doing the damage.
Into the second half and The Comets went about their business assuredly and stuck to their task against Writtle’s robust tactics and spending long periods camped in the opposition half.
But in the end it was the away side who went on to add another two goals to their tally to make the final score 6-0.
The work we have been doing recently on the defensive side of the game is really starting to show promise, but we have maybe taken our eyes of the other end of the pitch a little too much, as apart from 1 or 2 opportunities we didn’t pressure the Writtle goal enough.
Overall not a “bad” performance, but we know we can do better in the remaining six games of the season.
Man of the match this week was a very close call between 2 players. Luke Boyle continued his impressive run of form playing only his 2nd game at centre back while looking like he has been playing there for years, but ultimately the award went to James Moseley who was up against a much taller and bigger player, but didn’t let that deter him from his task and he spent to full 70 minutes battling away and frustrating his opponent.

The Under 14 Comets work in their first seasons have been rewarded off the pitch with an incredibly generous sponsorship from AES Global. The lads now look the part in fresh home and away kits as well as their training wear to boot. The team would like to thank AES Global for their kind donation.
