Wivenhoe Tempest Blues 2 Great Bradfords Rockets 3 (AET)
A tough game for our Rockets as they returned to action after more than a month without football and it showed to begin with. Some changes to the normal formation and personnel which gave the Rockets a new challenge as they faced Wivenhoe for the third time this season. In previous encounters the Rockets found themselves with victories and never trailing to the side but this was by far a different story as the Rockets found themselves in the very unusual position of being 2-0 down before half time.
A change around on the pitch saw the Rockets halve the deficit before a much needed half time team talk. After the break the Rockets were back on the front foot scoring quickly before seeing it disallowed for a dubious offside call. A couple more of these decisions threatened to see the Rockets walk away falling out of the Open Cup early on, however persistence became the word of the day as the Rockets finally broke Wivenhoe down without seeing a flag to hit home a second. 2-2 at full time.
With a result needed we saw the team work the same way in extra team pushing for their third. It looked as if penalties loomed something no one ever wants to face before the Rockets found the golden moment with a couple of minutes to spare.
An ugly start to the day ended in the Rockets booking their place in Round 2 of the Colchester Open Cup where they will travel to Eight Ash Green after their away win against FC Clacton Reds. Goals from Luke Willson, Dylan Carpenter Flack and Ryan Mosdall see us through as the latter two lads continue to battle towards their impressive goal tallies of last season.
We will see Wivenhoe once more this season as we welcome them to Blackmore End in the league later in the year
